Sugar palm stands are abundant in the municipality of Indang, particularly in its riparian areas. Also known as irok, locals have utilized parts of the tree to produce food and other household products. Aside from its economic uses, sugar palm is also suitable for soil stabilization, with its roots permeating the soul up to 3 meters deep and extending up to 10 meters wide (World Agroforestry Database).

Through this initiative, the SPRINT Center is hopeful that awareness of the economic and ecological importance of the sugar palm will be further strengthened in Indang which has been tagged as the Kaong Capital of the Philippines.
