For. Junser P. Magpantay, director of Sugar Palm Research, Information and Trade (SPRINT) Center and Pollution Control Officer, and two other faculty members of Cavite State University (CvSU), Dr. Jonathan R. Digma, principal of CvSU-Maragondon Campus and Mr. Angelbert D. Cortes, CvSU faculty researcher and faculty member of College of Arts and Sciences attended the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL) 2023 Future Science Leaders' Forum (FSLF) on November 9-10, 2023 at Acacia Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa, Metro Manila.

This year marks the 9th year of the FSLF which aims to empower young Filipino science leaders to maximize their leadership potential in their respective fields and to provide a venue for a leadership network of peers, possible mentors, and advisors.

The FSLF is a mentorship forum that gathers young people with great accomplishments in their profession, strong leadership potential in their respective fields, and excellent communication skills. National Scientist Carmencita M. David-Padilla, National Scientist Dolores A. Ramirez, and National Scientist Lourdes J. Cruz were present and served as plenary speakers.

Around 60 delegates who were carefully selected to participate and undergo the mentoring forum were composed of youth science leaders from different places in the country. Each participant was chosen based on their field of expertise.

The NAST Philippines is the country’s highest advisory body to the government and the science community on matters related to science and technology. It also has the mandate to recognize outstanding achievements in science and technology made by Filipino scientists in all fields of science. NAST PHL was established on December 17, 1976, through Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1003-A and became operational in 1978 through PD 1557. (Source: NAST PH)
